Be it winter or summer pursuits, Vancouver has amazing sporting facilities where both international and national sporting events take place. Below are the leading centres with both outdoor and indoor facilities.
BC Place Stadium
We wouldn’t be so wrong to conclude that this is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Canada. It is usually a busy stadium all year round as it offers everything a sports event would ever need all under one roof. The stadium is also multi-purpose – it can be used for sports, exhibitions as well as other entertainment events. It can accommodate over 50,000 people at a time and offers over 22,482 square metres in event space. This is where the 2010 Olympic Winter Games opening and closing ceremonies were held. One of its unique aspects is the retractable roof, which is cable-supported.
Rogers Arena
Rogers Arena is famous for being one of the most active sporting venues in Canada. It can accommodate up to 20,000 people and offers 2,229 square metres of event space. This is famous for being home to the Vancouver Canucks NHL hockey team. Rogers Arena was the official venue for hockey during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The Vancouver Convention Centre
This is one of the largest convention centres in Vancouver, British Columbia. It offers over 40,000 square metres in meeting space and can accommodate over 12,000 people. The centre established in 1987 has played host to different events, including sports, award ceremonies and exhibitions. This venue also offers an extra 11,148 square metre outdoor space.
Hastings Park
Hastings Park plays host to different sporting and other entertainment events. There is an indoor arena that can accommodate over 15,000 participants. There is also an Agrodome, which can take up to 3,000 guests. Its oval floor has a concrete surface making it a great space for ice hockey and skating during winter. The venue hosts games such as professional tennis, boxing and wrestling.
